Having an "Opinion" can become a life obstacle. Opinion is a result of judgement, and when we
judge, that has consequences which at times, can get us into trouble. Problems can be endless.
The Buddha said, "Monks, you live in two worlds, an internal world (which consist of
mind and body) and an External world (which consists of sense objects)
as we make contact with the outside world."
The problem does not arise when we make contact with any object whether internal or external.
The problem only arises when we form an opinion from that contact.
Our perception is the problem.
Therefore, one should recite, “no opinion, no problem".
I would like to share a story with you. One which is relevant to the subject
which we are talking about today.
One day a man went to his friend and asked to borrow his donkey.
"The donkey is not home today" said his friend.
But as his friend said that, the sound of "EEEEH O" echoed into the room.
"O friend," said the man, "You say that the donkey is not at home, but I hear him".
"What a strange fellow you are!" replied his friend,
"You believe the donkey instead of a lifelong friend like me?"
So, can you see the point in the story? The man did not accept the answer
that was given by his friend.
He had no trust. This is because he simply heard a sound and made assumptions.
His assumptions led to an opinion, which caused him to mistrust his own friend.
Instead of believing his friend, he ended up believing in a sound.
In life…we are bombarded, constantly, by sounds, sights, smells and many obstacles.
The only way we can deal with this effectively is not to place any opinion on them.
This is the solution to the problem.
We need to witness everything naturally, in its true form and as it really is,
without forming an opinion, without judgement.
Whether you believe or not, if we have no opinion, we will have neither doubt nor conflict in life.
Non-judgment is a skill that is useful and worth learning and developing.
So why don’t you give it a try and see for yourself.
